Lanakila Pacific extends a heartfelt mahalo to everyone who donated to Project Holiday Wish. Funds raised will help purchase a new van for our Teaching & Learning Centers (TLCs), expanding access to the community and creating more opportunities for participants to build independence.
The TLCs are adult day health programs where individuals with disabilities focus on life skills such as communication, technology, and budgeting. These skills support confidence, connection, and daily decision-making. Participants also help decide how they spend their time, from volunteering and grocery shopping to bowling and exploring new places around the island.
Mae Datuin, Program Manager at Lanakila Pacific’s Wahiawa TLC, says time spent in the community is essential in skill-building and connection. “They spend so much time in this program; this is their whole world,” she shared. “They connect with friends, have fun, and make memories every day. Seeing them happy and learning is what matters most.”
One of the most anticipated opportunities each year is the HGEA Holiday Craft Fair. Participants spend months creating handmade items such as fabric lei, beaded accessories, plants, and seasonal gifts. Attending the craft fair allows them to proudly share their work and interact with customers.
These outings can be transformative. Mae has seen participants gain confidence, develop coping strategies, and bring those skills home and into the larger community. Access to meaningful opportunities strengthens families, programs, and neighborhoods. Mahalo to everyone who supported Project Holiday Wish and helped open more doors for inclusive, community-based experiences.
