Seventeen years ago, celebrated Chef Alan Wong accepted the role of honorary chair for The Good Table, a dining fundraiser supporting Lanakila Meals on Wheels. He’s remained at the helm ever since.

“As a chef, what we do is serve food and make people happy,” he explained. “Why not use the restaurant to serve food to the community too?”

Chef Wong’s vision is grounded in gratitude, inspired by the Japanese phrase Okage Sama De (“I am who I am because of you”) and the Confucian value of filial piety. He believes our kupuna “have stories to tell, and they cannot be left behind.”

The Good Table returns from September 16-18 with exclusive dining experiences at 14 participating restaurants. Every table purchase helps deliver nutritious meals to homebound kupuna through Lanakila Meals on Wheels. Participating chefs generously donate their time and talent, with proceeds directly supporting the program.

“This event is so meaningful because we all have elders,” Chef Wong said. “Supporting The Good Table turns one meal into many, and is an easy way to show respect and appreciation.”

As Hawaii’s senior population continues to grow, so does the risk of food insecurity and isolation. The Good Table is a reminder that community support can nourish both body and spirit. Reserve your table at
