Every week, Lanakila Meals on Wheels provides meals to nearly 850 seniors island-wide.  With a small staff of just five members, this feat is only possible because of the help received from teams of dedicated volunteers, like the employees of Hawaiian Telecom.

Last October, Hawaiian Telecom held its annual Day in the Community event in which Hawaiian Telecom encouraged its employees to dedicate a “work day” to volunteer at various community service projects across the state of Hawaii.  Lanakila Meals on Wheels was one of the lucky beneficiaries.

On this company-wide day of giving back to the community, eight Hawaiian Telecom employees gathered at Lanakila Meals on Wheels to pack meals for delivery routes across the island.  Driven to make a meaningful difference, team members felt good knowing that kupuna would be receiving nutritious meals for the week.

“Because our team and I enjoyed it so much, I’ve talked to other employees to come join us,” says Jair Kadooka, a Hawaiian Telecom employee.  Since then, their team has committed to volunteering on a Friday AM shift once a month if their work schedules allow.  “It’s so nice to see our volunteer team grow!” she continues.

Mahalo to the Hawaiian Telecom employees for all that they do for Oahu’s kupuna.  We couldn’t do it without you!
