Lanakila Pacific connected Megan with a job at Hickam Hale Aina Dining Facility right out of high school. Over the past ten years, she’s found a workplace where she can grow, learn, and feel supported.
She started in food prep, learned to serve meals, clear tables, and operate the dishwasher, and now works as a cashier. “I love numbers, so it helps me focus and keep my mind calm,” Megan said.
Her job has become a source of confidence and connection. “Lanakila Pacific understands the barriers we face,” she explained. “We have the freedom to be ourselves and not feel less than. That’s what I love about working here.”
Her supervisor, Josiah, has witnessed her growth. “Her demeanor has really changed,” he said. “She’s calmer, more collected, and more social with everyone. She’s grown to be a valued member of the team.”
Megan’s job is supported by SourceAmerica’s AbilityOne Program, which creates meaningful jobs for individuals with disabilities through federal service contracts. This year, Megan traveled to Washington, D.C., for a SourceAmerica advocacy event to share her story and speak about the importance of inclusive employment. “It was a huge step,” Megan said. “I’m proud that I got to speak for people with disabilities in front of an audience of more than a hundred people. We all have the same potential. Sometimes it just takes the right support to reach it.”
